Chardonnay doesn’t have a strong flavour of its own, which is exactly why it’s so interesting. It takes on the character of where it’s grown and how it’s made. In a cool climate, without oak, it’s crisp, citrusy and mineral, as in Chablis. Warmer vineyards and time in barrel make it rounder, with notes of stone fruit, butter and toasted nuts.
Burgundy is its home, and our range runs from Mâcon and Saint-Véran to Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Aubin and Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru. Beyond France, look for Kumeu River from New Zealand, Wakefield from Australia, and high-altitude Chardonnay from Argentina. Chardonnay is also the grape behind Blanc de Blancs Champagne and much of the best English sparkling wine, so you’ll find plenty of fizz here too.
