2023 Domaine Gerard Thomas, Saint-Aubin, Champ Tirant

Gerard Thomas is one of Saint-Aubin`s most respected growers, farming organically across some of the village`s best sites. Champ Tirant sits mid-slope in the southern part of the appellation, classic Chardonnay terroir with limestone soils that bring tension and minerality. The 2023 vintage in Burgundy delivered beautiful ripeness with freshness intact. White orchard fruit - apple, pear, white peach - with hazelnut richness from time on lees. There`s citrus zest brightness and a stony, chalky spine that keeps everything lifted. Medium-bodied with creamy texture but plenty of energy. Textbook Cote de Beaune white Burgundy without the Puligny price tag. Serve cool (10-12°C). Excellent with roast chicken, creamy pasta, or richer fish dishes. Drinking beautifully now but will develop for 3-5 years.
Created by Hippolyte Thomas, Gérard's grandfather, Domaine Gérard Thomas is situated in Saint-Aubin, a winemakers' village in the south of the Côte de Beaune. This 12-hectare family estate is managed by Gérard Thomas, supported by his two daughters, Anne-Sophie and Isabelle, who represent the 4th generation of winegrowers. The vineyard, mainly planted with Chardonnay varieties, is spread over the municipalities of Saint-Aubin, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet and produces a whole range of great white burgundies.
