VIK, Chile 2015
The Flagship wine of the Vik range - a Grand Cru Classé beater!
This crowning glory of the Vina VIK stable has a structured and elegant palate, inherent to Cabernet Sauvignon, with velvety tannins, but firm in structure, that provide a linear and long-lasting sensation.
Endless red fruit aromas, fresh but ripened, and spices that develop in each glass, provide an aromatic complexity that keeps the senses awake.
23 months in a new French barrel provide it with a unique brightness with dried fruits and subtle hints of mocha.
"Aromas of flowers, currants, fresh mint and Thai basil. Full body, structured and muscular with a toned texture. Bright and dynamic on the finish. Tangy finish under the fruit and wet earth highlights. Mostly cabernet
sauvignon, cabernet franc, syrah, carmenere and merlot. This needs at least three to four years to come around."
96 points - James Suckling for 2013 vintage
Norwegian billionaire Alexander Vik founded an eponymous Chilean winery with the modest aim of creating the best wine in South America. In 2006, after years of extensive planning, research, and soil analysis, he purchased an 11,000-acre estate in the Millahue Valley. Viña Vik’s flagship Millahue blend contains Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from three different vine clones, planted across three plots. Smaller quantities of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, and Carmenère complete the wine.
"Our sixth vintage reveals the unique expression of our D.O.’s Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Millahue Valley’s multiple microclimates influence the wine's deep complexity, linear acidity, and delicate freshness.
Cooling coastal breezes temper our hot afternoons and yield Cabernet Sauvignon that is elegant, powerful and dynamic, and Cabernet Franc that is a delicate and distinctly mineral."
