Slurp Wines NR
Vieira de Sousa is a small, family-run Port house in the Douro Valley with over a century of winemaking history. Alice Reserve showcases their dry red wines, made from the same indigenous varieties used for Port but vinified without fortification. Expect a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz from terraced vineyards on steep schist slopes. The 2022 vintage is relatively recent, showing youthful fruit with structure. Blackberry, dark cherry and plum with violet, rock rose and peppery spice. Full bodied with firm tannins and bright acidity. There`s concentration and power typical of Douro reds, showing the intensity these grapes naturally deliver. Still quite youthful with primary fruit dominating, though some savoury notes are starting to emerge. Structured and built for the medium term. Serve at room temperature (16-18°C). Decant for 60 minutes to soften the tannins. Pairs well with grilled steaks, roast lamb, feijoada, or aged hard cheeses. Drinking now but will develop further over 5-8 years as the tannins integrate.
