The wine shows a bright, clear garnet colour with a violet rim. On the nose there is a graceful complexity: ripe red and dark fruit lifted by subtle balsamic notes, roasted coffee and a whisper of smoke. The palate is full-bodied yet graceful, with fresh acidity balancing well-rounded, soft tannins. Black fruit flavours mingle with tobacco and oak spices, all very well integrated. The finish is long, smooth, and inviting.
This wine is made from 100% Tempranillo vines from vineyards over 800 metres above sea level in Pesquera de Duero, facing south on soils that are poor, pebbly and underlain by clay. The grapes are harvested by hand, fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, then aged for at least 14 months in 225-litre American oak barrels. After barrel ageing it rests in bottle prior to release. The vintage benefitted from a mild winter and favourable ripening with strong diurnal temperature differences, allowing the fruit to develop richness and clarity.
Best served around 16-18 °C, ideally decanted. This reserva pairs beautifully with roasted red meats, hearty stews, lamb dishes, or aged cheeses. The wine’s smoky, spicy oak and structure hold up well alongside rich flavours, and its fruit-fresh lift keeps it from feeling heavy.
Tinto Pesquera Reserva 2020 offers both power and elegance. It delivers full Tempranillo character, great structure and oak integration, but never at the cost of freshness. For those seeking a wine that combines immediate appeal with the ability to age further, this wine embodies authenticity and a well-crafted wine tradition, giving strong value and enjoyment.
This vintage has been very well received in blind tastings and wine metrics, consistently awarded scores in the 90+ range. Critics praise its ripe fruit intensity, the seamless marriage of oak and tannin, and its lingering finish. Many note that it strikes a balance between generosity and refinement, less ostentatious oak, more purity and elegance than some previous years.
