Tasting notes

Pale lemon-green in colour, this white opens with vibrant aromas of citrus peel, thyme, and verbena, layered with nuanced hints of liquorice and fennel. On the palate, it’s simultaneously crisp and round, aromatic, with a lively, finely textured finish.

Hailing from the esteemed Brunel family’s estate, Château de la Gardine sits on Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape’s legendary Urgonian limestone soils. This blend: 50% Roussanne, 20% Grenache Blanc, 20% Clairette, and 10% Bourboulenc, is hand-harvested and gently pressed. Around 70% ferments in stainless steel at controlled temperatures, with the rest aged in oak barrels, resulting in a wine that balances freshness with refined texture. No malolactic fermentation takes place, preserving clean acidity and aromatic purity. Six months of aging add subtle richness and the potential to develop honeyed notes with cellar time.

Serve chilled at about 10 °C. A graceful match for summer brandade ravioli, squid ink pasta, goat cheese, or a luxurious scrambler with truffles, highlighting both freshness and richness

The winemaking tradition of the Brunel family goes back to the 17th century. Gaston Brunel, a famous négociant, acquired the Château de la Gardine in Châteauneuf du Pape in 1945. The estate is now run by his two sons Patrick and Maxime, their wives Eve and Maryse, three of his grandchildren Marie-Odile, Philippe and Laure and two of his great-grandchildren Guillaume and Thibault.

The estate spreads over 52 ha of vineyards (48 ha of red and 4 ha of white) and 20 ha of forests, all gathered around the property. The domaine is famous for the quality of their wines and for the iconic Gardine bottle.

Château de la Gardine have always been very respectful of the planet. They have long used organic fertilizer, encouraged biodiversity (20 ha of forest, apicultural set-aside areas, insect houses) and use controlled weeding.
