Grifone is produced in Puglia, the heel of Italy's boot, where hot Mediterranean sunshine and limestone soils create ideal conditions for Primitivo. This is the same grape as California's Zinfandel but the Italian expression tends to be softer and more approachable. The 2023 vintage is fresh and fruit-forward, made for near-term drinking rather than aging.
Blackberry, plum and black cherry with hints of spice and vanilla. Medium bodied with soft, rounded tannins and a smooth finish. Ripe and generous without being jammy or heavy. There's just enough structure to pair with food but it's fundamentally an easy-going, crowd-pleasing red.
Serve slightly cool (14-16°C). Great with pizza, pasta with tomato sauce, grilled vegetables, or barbecued meats. Also works well on its own as a simple, satisfying red. Drink within 2-3 years while the fruit is fresh.
