Pale straw-yellow with subtle green highlights, this wine opens with fragrant aromas of honeydew melon, orange blossom and fresh herb-garden botanicals. On the palate it delivers juicy lemon zest, steely cassis notes and a generous texture that lifts the finish. A Sauvignon with structure yet surprising subtlety. The finish is long and focused, framed by crisp acidity and a whisper of pastis and wildflowers for added nuance.
Fruit for this 2024 vintage is sourced from prime vineyard sites across Marlborough’s Southern Valleys and the central Wairau Plains, encompassing Renwick, Woodbourne and Rapaura. Soils range from young alluvial deposits rich in greywacke river stones to older, denser clay-loams. The grapes were machine-harvested during cool night-time conditions, lightly pressed, cold-settled and fermented primarily in stainless steel. All individual vineyard batches remained on fine lees until late June before blending and bottling in early August.
Serve chilled at around 8–10 °C. This Sauvignon Blanc pairs beautifully with shellfish, oysters, grilled white fish, green salads with herbs, goat’s cheese, or simply as a refined aperitif. Its bright citrus and refined texture make it especially suited to dishes where freshness and finesse are key.
The 2024 vintage has been awarded high acclaim, scoring in the 93-point range. Reviewers highlight its aromatic intensity, impressive structure for the variety, and its balance between rich fruit and crisp drive. They note how this wine speaks of its place with clarity and elegant restraint.
Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc 2024 stands out as a premium take on Marlborough’s signature grape, offering more complexity and textural depth than many standard Sauvignon Blancs, while retaining freshness and drinkability. If you’re looking for a white wine that bridges everyday enjoyment with serious winemaking pedigree, this bottle delivers both, and with strong critical endorsement, it’s an excellent choice.
