Tasting Notes

Slurp Wines NR

Cialdini produces traditional Lambrusco in Castelvetro, the heart of Emilia-Romagna`s sparkling red wine country. Grasparossa is one of the finest Lambrusco varieties, giving deeper colour and more structure than other clones. This is proper dry Lambrusco, not the sweet commercial stuff, made in the traditional frizzante style with gentle bubbles. The 2024 vintage captures fresh fruit and lively effervescence. Dark cherry, blackberry and violet with subtle earthy notes. Light to medium bodied with bright acidity and gentle fizz that adds lift and texture. Dry with vibrant fruit character and that characteristic slight bitterness on the finish. Refreshing and food-friendly rather than sweet or cloying. Chillable red with character. Serve chilled (12-14°C). Classic pairing is with rich Emilian food like cured meats, Parmigiano Reggiano, or fatty pasta dishes. The acidity and bubbles cut through richness beautifully. Drink young and fresh, ideally within the year. [Slurp Wines, 05/06/2026]

While the Chiarli family have been producing wines at Villa Cialdini since 1960, in 2002, cousins Anselmo and Mauro Chiarli decided to create a state of the art winery to produce top quality Lambrusco. They spent a year renovating the winery and began production using the property's old vineyards in 2003.

The Villa Cialdini estate comprises 70 hectares, of which 52 are planted under vine on the undulating, alluvial deposits typical of the Padana plain. The main grape variety here is Grasparossa, the lower-yielding and more concentrated clone of Lambrusco. The resulting Lambrusco is deeply coloured, frothing, dry and structured while retaining the pronounced fruitiness cut by lovely acidity, which has made Lambrusco such a mainstay in the restaurants of Modena and Bologna.
