Château Fonplégade is a classified growth in Saint-Émilion, with vineyards on the plateau and slopes surrounding the medieval town. The estate has been certified organic and biodynamic since 2013, farming 18 hectares of prime limestone and clay soils. Predominantly Merlot with Cabernet Franc and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in French oak. The 2021 vintage in Bordeaux was challenging but quality-focused estates delivered balanced, elegant wines. Black cherry, plum and cassis with cedar, graphite and subtle violet notes. Medium to full bodied with fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. There`s concentration and depth here with classic Right Bank elegance rather than power. Well-integrated oak adds complexity without dominating. Layers of dark fruit, spice and mineral notes. Long, refined finish. Decant for 60-90 minutes if drinking now. Pairs excellently with duck, roast lamb, game, or aged hard cheeses. Serve around 16-18°C. Still quite youthful, will develop beautifully over 15-20 years
