Tasting Notes

Slurp Wines NR

Louis Chèze is one of Condrieu`s most respected producers, farming steep granite terraces in the northern Rhône. Pagus Luminis (Field of Light) comes from a specific south-facing parcel with exceptional sun exposure, producing intensely aromatic Viognier with concentration and minerality. Condrieu is one of the world`s great white wine appellations, but tiny production keeps it relatively rare. The 2023 vintage delivers ripe fruit with excellent freshness. Apricot, white peach and honeysuckle with orange blossom, ginger and a stony mineral edge. Full bodied with rich, textured mouthfeel balanced by bright acidity. There`s opulence here but it`s not heavy, showing restraint despite the ripeness. Layers of stone fruit, spice and mineral complexity. Long, perfumed finish. Serve cool (10-12°C), not ice cold, to appreciate the aromatics and texture. Pairs beautifully with lobster, rich fish dishes, roast chicken, or creamy cheeses. Drinking well now, will develop further over 3-5 years though many prefer Condrieu young for maximum aromatics. [Slurp Wines, 05/06/2026]

The family property was taken over in 1978 by Louis Chèze. The Domaine Louis Chèze is located on the top of the hillside of the commune of Limony, on the right bank of the Rhône, 60 Kms south of Lyon, in the heart of the northern Côtes du Rhône vineyard area. Monsieur Chèze started the adventure with 1 Ha in Saint-Joseph and a few vines he rented. Today, the estate represents 45 Ha in the prestigious appellations such as Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, Côte-Rôtie as well as well-situated vineyards in Vins de Pays districts.

Since the year 2000, he is one of the forerunners with two winegrower friends reviving the fabulous Roman terroir of Seyssuel. Louis' determination, curiosity and rigour are of the utmost importance when it comes to monitoring the vineyard and making the wines. Each vintage is an in-depth search to capture the quintessence of the terroirs. Numerous vintages, each with their own differences will delight the wine and food lover in you.
