Tasting Notes

Slurp Wines NR

White Chateauneuf-du-Pape represents only a tiny fraction of the appellation`s production, making it something special. The Brunel family blends traditional varieties including Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Bourboulenc, fermented and aged in a mix of oak and stainless steel. The 2022 vintage delivers ripe fruit with excellent freshness and balance. This is serious white wine, not just a novelty. White peach, apricot and honeyed notes with orange blossom, almond and subtle oak spice. Full bodied with creamy texture and bright acidity keeping everything balanced. There`s weight and richness here but not heaviness. Layers of stone fruit, citrus peel and mineral complexity. Long, textured finish with lingering floral notes. Serve cool (10-12°C), not ice cold. This has the body and complexity to pair with lobster, roast poultry, creamy risotto, or rich fish dishes. Drinking well now but white Chateauneuf ages beautifully, developing honeyed, waxy complexity over 10-15 years. [Slurp Wines, 05/06/2026]

The winemaking tradition of the Brunel family goes back to the 17th century. Gaston Brunel, a famous negociant, acquired the Chateau de la Gardine in Chateauneuf du Pape in 1945. The estate is now run by his two sons Patrick and Maxime, their wives Eve and Maryse, three of his grandchildren Marie-Odile, Philippe and Laure and two of his great-grandchildren Guillaume and Thibault.

The estate spreads over 52 ha of vineyards (48 ha of red and 4 ha of white) and 20 ha of forests, all gathered around the property. The domaine is famous for the quality of their wines and for the iconic Gardine bottle.

Chateau de la Gardine have always been very respectful of the planet. They have long used organic fertilizer, encouraged biodiversity (20 ha of forest, apicultural set-aside areas, insect houses) and use controlled weeding.
