Tasting Notes

Slurp Wines NR

Chateau Mauvesin Barton is owned by the Barton family, who have been making wine in Bordeaux since 1722 and are best known for their Saint-Julien classified growths Leoville Barton and Langoa Barton. This Moulis estate benefits from the same winemaking expertise applied to a more accessible appellation. Moulis sits inland from Margaux with clay-limestone soils that produce structured, age-worthy wines. The 2018 vintage in Bordeaux was excellent, delivering ripe fruit with balance. Blackcurrant, dark cherry and plum with cedar, graphite and subtle earthy notes. Medium to full bodied with firm tannins and bright acidity. There`s structure and concentration here showing serious left bank character. Classic Cabernet-led blend with power balanced by freshness. Layers of dark fruit, spice and mineral complexity. Long, structured finish. Serve at room temperature (16-18°C). Decant for 60 minutes if drinking now. Pairs excellently with roast beef, grilled lamb chops, aged Cantal, or rich stews. Drinking well now but built to age over 10-12 years. [Slurp Wines, 05/06/2026]

''The vineyard is situated in the ''Moulis-en-Medoc'' appellation, to the north of Bordeaux, on the left bank of the Gironde estuary. Part of the soil is clay-gravel, perfectly adapted for the development of Cabernet-Franc and Merlot. Another part is made up of fine gravel and gritty sand, allowing the Cabernet Sauvignon to reach full ripeness.'' ''As for all the Barton family activities, great importance is attached to environmental protection and the quality of the wines produced.'' -Chateau Mauvesin Barton
