"The nose opens on a powerful array of black fruit aromas, especially blackberry and blackcurrant, followed after airing by delicate notes of spice (black pepper) and herbs. The very full attack, bursting with black fruit aromas, is followed by an intense and concentrated mid-palate which expresses all the character of Syrah with the spice notes typical of the grape, leading into a dense and long finish on subtle notes of violet."

"Baron Philippe de Rothschild's winemakers have decided to combine the two terroirs that offer the best conditions for this early variety. The mediterranean terroir combines gravelly soil with a hot climate tempered by sea breezes to give wines with concentrated,super-ripe fruit flavours, body and substance. The oceanic terroir moderates this richness: with a damp climate tempered by hot spells and deep, predominantly clay-limestone soil, its wines bring out merlot's fresher notes."
