Michel Magnien is a highly regarded domaine in Morey-Saint-Denis producing exceptional wines across the Côte de Nuits. Fixin is the northernmost village appellation of the Côte de Nuits, often overlooked but capable of producing sturdy, age-worthy Pinot Noir at fair prices. The limestone and clay soils bring structure and earthy character. The 2018 vintage in Burgundy was excellent, delivering ripe fruit with balance, and this has developed nicely.
Red cherry, raspberry and blackberry with forest floor, earth and subtle game notes. Medium to full bodied with firm tannins and bright acidity. There's more structure and rusticity here than softer Côte de Nuits villages, showing Fixin's character. The fruit has evolved into savoury complexity with mushroom, leather and dried herbs. Honest, traditional Burgundy.
Serve at room temperature (16-18°C). Decant for 45 minutes to let it breathe. Pairs well with beef bourguignon, venison, wild boar, or hearty terrines. Drinking well now, will continue to develop over another 3-5 years

Michel Magnien represents the fourth generation of wine growers of the Magnien family. From a very young age, he worked on the vineyard of his father, Bernard Magnien (third generation) owner of 4 hectares of vines. The Domaine is an 18-hectare vine Estate located on the Côte de Nuits and spilt into 23 appellations of Grands Crus, Premiers Crus, Villages and AOC Régionales.
After years of application, Domaine Michel Magnien was certified as biodynamic by Demeter in 2015. At each stage, the work follows the rhythm of the synodic cycle of the moon. They are fully committed to organic agricultural principles in their management of vines and wines.
Thanks to Michel Magnien's special care for his vines over the years, the wines are unique and faithful to the best terroirs in Burgundy. The Estate is now managed by Frédéric, the fifth generation, who strives to raise our wines at the highest level of quality.
