Tasting Notes

Slurp Wines NR

Moulin de Gassac is another label from the Guibert family of Mas de Daumas Gassac, focusing on lighter, more delicate styles. This rose is made in the pale Provençal style, emphasising finesse and subtlety over power. Typically a blend of Mediterranean varieties pressed gently to achieve the signature pale colour, fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness. The 2023 vintage is crisp and aromatic. Strawberry, wild raspberry and citrus peel with subtle floral notes. Light bodied with refreshing acidity and a clean, mineral finish. Delicate and refined rather than fruit-forward. There`s restraint here, showing pale rose elegance with gentle fruit expression. Dry with a crisp, thirst-quenching character. Serve well chilled (6-8°C). Perfect aperitif or pair with seafood, salads, grilled vegetables, or light Mediterranean dishes. This is about elegance and refreshment. Drink within a year while it`s at its freshest. In 1971, Veronique and Aime Guibert bought a Mas (farmhouse) and abandoned mill in the heart of a beautiful, wild valley through which flowed the Gassac river. After consulting Prof. Henri Enjalbert they planted vines in clearings in the middle of 4,000 hectares of forest - he was convinced they had the ''terroir'' to produce a Grand Cru of the future. The first vintage of their flagship red was produced in 1978 from roughly 80% Cabernet Sauvignon. By 1982, a respected French wine guide described Mas de Daumas Gassac as the Chateau Lafite of the Languedoc. The Rose Frizant was created in 1981, also from the younger Cabernet vines.

Today, the children of the Guibert family manage the estate, storing their harvests in an old cellar underneath the original mill. The five brothers have continued to fine tune the Mas de Daumas Gassac's Grand Vin and broaden the range with varietal wines and blends that offer great value for money under their Moulin de Gassac label.
