Tasting Notes

Slurp Wines NR

While Muga is famous for their reds, this rosado shows the same attention to detail and traditional winemaking. Made predominantly from Garnacha with some Viura, fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness. The 2024 vintage is straight from the cellar, capturing bright fruit and acidity. This is proper Spanish rosado with more body and structure than Provence-style roses. Wild strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant with subtle floral notes and a hint of citrus zest. Bone dry with crisp acidity and medium body. There`s texture here, almost a slight grip on the finish, giving it enough substance to handle food rather than just being a poolside sipper. Clean, refreshing finish with good length. Serve chilled (8-10°C). Versatile with food: grilled prawns, paella, tomato salads, charcuterie, or spicy Asian dishes. Works as an aperitif but has the body to carry through a meal. Drink within a year while it`s fresh and vibrant. [Slurp Wines, 05/06/2026]

Bodegas Muga is a family business founded by Isaac Muga and Aurora Cano in 1932, located in the historic Barrio de La Estacion (Station Quarter) of Haro. It is home to both the most traditional winemaking methods and the latest cutting-edge techniques. They are the only cellar in Spain with a master cooper and three in-house barrel-makers.

Bodegas Muga vineyards are located on the foot of the Montes Obarenses, within the area called Rioja Alta. The site climate is exceptional due to, on the one hand, the singular geography and orientation of the vines and on the other hand, the surrounding climates - Mediterranean, Atlantic and Continental climates are combined harmoniously thus creating a suitable climate for growing top quality grapes.

The soil in this area is mostly clay and limestone, divided into small terroirs with different physical and chemical qualities between them; each terroir has a unique and defined personality. This variety of climatic influences and different soils influence many stages of the vine growth cycle. The growth will be complex and delicate, key to the potential quality of the wines in this area.

The grape varieties grown are Tempranillo, Garnacha (Grenache), Mazuelo (Carignan) and Graciano for the red wines; and Viura, Garnacha blanca and Malvasia are used for the white wines.
