This is a new flagship wine from Yalumba which has won widespread praise from critics. James Halliday, an authority on Australian wine, gave The Caley 98 points: “52% Coonawarra Cabernet, 27% Barossa Cabernet and 21% Barossa Shiraz, open-fermented with wild yeast (three days) then cultured yeast. Bright, deep crimson-purple; the bouquet instantly semaphores a glorious profusion of cassis, blackberry and black cherry fruits, flavours which are precisely mirrored by the palate. But it’s the way this beautiful wine caresses the mouth that is so special, the tannins polished, the oak judged to perfection.”

Tasting Notes

A deep garnet red in colour, the bouquet is filled with an array of fruits including blackberry, black cherry and blackcurrants with hints of cassis, overlaid with herbs, spices, cedar and pipe tobacco. The fruity and complex aromas are mirrored on the palate with finely balanced oak and perfectly integrated tannins leading into a long, smooth finish. This wine is exquisitely textured, supple and smooth.
