Vincent & Sophie Morey Santenay Passetemps 1er Cru 2010 Magnum
An excellent quality and great value Santenay 1er Cru Magnum that is drinking perfectly.
When Vincent's father Bernard Morey, a leading personality in the village of Chassagne-Montrachet, took his retirement, Vincent took over the a part of the holding. He already had twenty years' experience behind him. After studies at Beaune's "Lycée Viticole" and work-experience at Saint-Emilion in the Bordeaux region, Vincent rejoined the family domaine in 1986. In the same year Sophie was vinifying her first vintage for the Ménager-Belland domaine in Santenay.
Sourced from south-eastern facing vineyards set on Clay-limestone soils, vines here can be up to 60 years old. This is a rich and indulgent Burgundy, 100% aged in French oak barrels, 50% of which is new wood. The wonderful use of oak here gives the Pinot Noir a ripe, warm character graced with a lovely touch of acidity and a touch of minerality. 2010 proved a tricky but very good vintage in many parts of Burgundy, Santenay was hit with hail in September but clever sorting of fruit has ensured that this wine is stunning. Drinking now, this is perfect for any dinner table.
