    Tasting notes

This collection makes a perfect treat or yuletide gift for the discerning wine drinker, showcasing fine examples of some of our favourite Christmas wines from well-known wine regions across the world.

James Bryant Hill Central Coast Zinfandel 2019-  Aromas of blackberries, cassis, strawberry jam and toasty oak leap from the glass of this easy-drinking Californian red Zinfandel, followed by a lingering black fruit finish and a hint of mocha. Perfect for an evening by the fire.

Valdubon Crianza 2018, Ribera del Duero- From vines that are over 30 years old the grapes that go into this beautifully-made Crianza create elegant flavours of fresh red fruit, mingled with notes of coconut, vanilla, cocoa, spice and thyme. Perfect to have stashed away for an intimate dinner with friends.

Long Valley Ranch Monterey Cabernet Sauvignon 2019- This full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of black fruit with toasty notes. The palate has an abundance of sweet, rich dark fruit character, overlaid by vanilla spiced oak and a satisfying tannic grip.

Black Cottage Marlborough Pinot Noir 2020- Perfectly paired with rich foods, this wine is dark and brooding with aromas of forest floor, black cherry and chocolate-coated coffee bean. The palate has spicy, peppery notes with thyme, violets and a texture typical to Marlborough's Southern Valleys.

James Bryant Hill Central Coast Chardonnay 2019- A standout dry Californian Chardonnay with a palate of yellow apple, pear and citrus blossom and a touch of vanilla and butterscotch. Pair with roast chicken or creamy vegetarian risotto.

Clouston & Co Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2021- Clouston & Co’s 100 year legacy shows with this delightful gem. It has billowing aromas of fresh herbs, summer flowers, honeydew melon, blackcurrant, kiwi and passionfruit. The zesty, tropical palate has a lovely texture and lively finish.

Louis Robin Chablis 2021- Very dry, lively, even acidic, and with an admirable finesse, Chablis has a recognisable personality. This fresh and mineral Chablis evokes flint, green apple, lemon and grapefruit. This wine leaves a taste of gunflint or mushroom on the palate

Schloss Johannisberg Gelblack Riesling Trocken Rheingau 2020- Hailing from one of the most historic German wine making estates, this 93 point-winning dry Riesling combines great minerality with lots of fresh lime, peach and subtle tropical fruit.

Black Cottage Pinot Noir Rosé 2020-  Recommended by James Davis, this elegant and eminently drinkable rosé is a sophisticated addition to the Christmas season. On the nose, it delivers notes of cranberry, melon and sea breeze aromas with undertones of raspberries and subtle liquorice, mirrored on the palate. Ideal as an aperitif.

Whispering Angel Cotes de Provence Rosé 2022-This iconic Provençal pink offers creamy flavours of peach and raspberries with refreshing citrus undertones and a smooth, dry finish. We recommend pairing this benchmark rosé with oily fish, and dishes with peppers or garlic.

Gratien & Meyer Cremant de Loire Brut NV- This elegant and fruity fizz from Loire is bound to be a new favourite. The aroma is perfumed and pronounced, with citrus, honey and acacia notes.. Perfect for popping to start the new year.

Champagne Leon Launois Brut NV- This multiple award-winning Champagne definitely deserves a seat at the table this year. A Lovely, fruity champagne that is ideal as an aperitif or with starters such as crisps, seafood or olives. Citrus and brioche notes, light and easy going and effortlessly drinkable.
