Trastullo Vino Rosso, Veneto 2015
This is a velvety soft, fruity and easily enjoyable appassimento-esque Rosso blend
In 1612 master printmaker Jacques Callot travelled to Florence to work for the notorious Medici family, here he produced a series of etchings documenting the rich variety of life that he found. 'Trastullo' is a character in Commedia dell 'Arte, an early form of professional theatre which originated in Italy in the 16th Century. It also happens to mean 'something which gives you great enjoyment' in an archaic Italian dialect, which is a perfect description for these wines. The wine is made in Veneto by a leading Cantina.
Trastullo Rosso has an intense ruby colour a nose of cherries with a hint of plum the palate is velvety with sweet blackberries, ripe, cooked plums and black cherries. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks with a small amount of dried grapes added for extra depth and complexity. The wine is then aged for two years before release. This is a velvety soft, fruity and easily enjoyable appassimento-esque Rosso blend made with 40% Corvina, 20% Rondinella, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The use of 40% non indigenous grapes means that the wine cannot be labelled as IGT even though all the grapes are from the Verona region.
