Soalheiro Alvarinho 2020
Soalheiro’s Alvarinho ‘classico’ is, vintage after vintage, consistently bursting with vibrant, sun-drenched fruit and fresh minerality.
An aromatic, fruit-driven Portuguese white with intense tropical flavours and a substantial body. There are also some lovely contrasting mineral and herbaceous notes that give an extra dimension to the wine. A great partner for most seafood and white fish dishes.
Soalheiro is the first Alvarinho brand in Melgaço (the northern point of Portugal) and one of the first portuguese producers of Alvarinho. (Alvarinho is the same thick-skinned grape that makes aromatic Albariño wines across the border in the Spanish region of Galicia).
Melgaço, the most northern region of Portugal, is protected by the surrounding mountains that allow a perfect marriage between rainfall, temperature and the number of hours of sunshine needed for the better maturation of the Alvarinho grapes. This climate characteristic during ripening is frequently associated with the microclimate of Monção and Melgaço, where hot days alternate with cold nights, allowing for the maintenance of a fresh and fruity aromas with an acidity that is present but moderate.
Often quoted as the standard bearer for this variety in Portugal, Luis Cerdeira is the surest pair of hands south of the Minho with Alvarinho.
Not your standard Vinho Verde, these wines can live for years, too.
