Richard Hamilton 'Hut Block' Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

"A well made, medium-bodied cabernet with fine-grained tannins, sufficiently fine to encourage (relatively) early consumption." - 92pts James Halliday, The Wine Companion
Hamilton is one of the original Australian winemaking families. In 1837 Richard Hamilton founded the Hamilton Vineyards, just south of Adelaide. Five winemaking generations later, in 1972, Richard's great-great-grandson Dr Richard Hamilton established a small winery in McLaren Vale under the guidance of his father Burton, a noted viticulturist, and uncle, renowned vigneron, Sydney Hamilton. The Richard Hamilton wines are gems, in 2012 five of the Richard Hamilton wines were listed in the top 50 best buys in Australia under $20.

Tasting Notes

The amazingly well priced Richard Hamilton 'Hut Block' Cabernet Sauvignon spends 14 months in a mixture of French and American oak, cassis fruit with hints of mint make this wine a definitive Cabernet Sauvignon. Hints of vanilla, cinnamon and mocha from oak maturation have augmented the fruit and add complexity. The palate shows excellent blackberry fruit flavours within a medium bodied structure and has a beautiful persistence with long, soft tannins. Drink now or save until 2022, this wine is a perfect match for a juicy steak or a burger. "Richard Hamilton has outstanding estate vineyards, some of great age, all fully mature. An experienced and skilled winemaking team has allowed the full potential of those vineyards to be realised. The quality, style and consistency of both red and white wines has reached a new level; being able to keep only the best parcels for the Richard Hamilton brand is an enormous advantage." - James Halliday, The Wine Companion "Estate-grown; part of the wine finished its fermentation in oak (25% new French), the remainder in tank, the components blended at the first racking. A well made, medium-bodied cabernet with fine-grained tannins, sufficiently fine to encourage (relatively) early consumption." - 92pts James Halliday, The Wine Companion
