Quinta Nova Pomares Douro 2017
"Highly drinkable and mellow, with supple tannins enveloping a fine concentration of cherry and plum fruit. Not a big wine, but a good early drinker." 92 points - Decanter
Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo to give it it's full name is a winery situated in a unique UNESCO landscape, a place of extreme beauty in the heart of Douro valley along the right bank of the river. Owned by Amorim family since 1999, this estate has a history which streches back over 250 years with some original aspects of the winery dating back to 1764, one of the oldest in the Douro. The terroir is stunning, with the vines planted in trellises which head up steep slopes, on unique soil composed of greywachian schist. The vineyard location is perfectly suited to maximise the effects of the Mediterranean micro climate and the hottest and driest winds, which help to ripen the grapes and concentrate the juices.
A delcious blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz which is designed to be very enjoyable young. A deep cherry in colour, this wine has warm invitinig aromas of ripe red fruit, hints of vanilla and toasted oak. On the palate it is juicy and soft with an intensity and purity of fruit which keeps you heading back for more. This wine will age for a few years and develop more savoury notes but is drinking great now. A perfect match to tapas, game or cured meats.
