Nittardi Ad Astra, DOC Maremma 2015
A rich and intense 'Super Tuscan' from the Coastal Marrema area, produced by Fattoria Nittardi.
Nittardi is a boutique winery situated in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, with vineyards in both Chianti Classico and the Maremma in southern Tuscany. The estate is on the boundary between the provinces of Siena and Florence, and was originally a defensive tower known as early as 1183 by the name of “Nectar Dei” (The Nectar of the God). In the 16th century, the vast property belonged to the famous Renaissance artist Michelangelo Buonarroti who, in 1549, while painting the Sistine Chapel, wrote to his nephew Lionardo: “I’d prefer two casks of wine rather than eight shirts.”
A vivid ruby red colour, this has an aromatic nose of plums and cherries and with a hint of licorice and dark chocolate. This is an elegant Tuscan wine with lovely depth of intense flavours, a complex bouquet, and a long and rich finish. Enjoyable right now, this can also be cellared for 3-5 years.
