Monte da Capela 'Capela' Alentejano 2015
An excellent Portuguese red based on the characterful Trincadeira grape, with berry fruits and a dry savoury finish.
Monte da Capela (meaning Chapel Estate, and named after an XV Century chapel celebrating local patron Saint Luzia) is located in the Moura sub-region on the left bank of the River Guadiana, the warmest region of Portugal. The terroir here is based on limestone soils and the unique climate of the Pias region is capable of producing wines with concentrated aromas and flavours, particularly noted for reds. The estate has 50 hectares of sustainably-farmed vineyards, and winemaker Alexandra Mendes ceates well-balanced wines which showcase local grape varieties.
The 'Capela' is a striking garnet colour in the glass. It has an intense aroma of soft red fruits, blackcurrants, and blueberries with a savoury edge. It shows a softness in the mouth, with a rounded character, along with a balanced structure and good persistence on the dry finish. A great value red, enjoy by itself or try with roast beef.
