Marras Piekenierskloof Grenache 2017
A superb Grenache from the high altitude Piekenierskloof region, high above Swartland.
Martin Lamprecht trained under one of the cape's most renowned and famed cooler climate winemakers David Nieuwoudt (Cederberg, Ghost Corner), before establishing Marras in the recently recognised high altitude Piekenierskloof region. Here, a combination of the altitude twinned with the unique soils of the region, dry conditions and ability for a long riepening period ("hang time") create beautifully ripe, balanced and complex wines with vivid fruit and good structure. This is a pioneering producer, and the wines just HAVE to be tasted!
Partially natural fermented and matured in older oak barrels for 10 months. A bright and lively cherry colour in the glass. This has pronounced aromas of bramble fruits, cherries and a mineral/granite note. The palate is full and lush, with vivid fplum, blackcurrant, and damson fruit and incredible concentration. The finish is fresh and long.
