Marquis de St Michel Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2018
A full bodied Châteauneuf, strong and intense. Powerful black fruits with rosemary and thyme.
Full bodied wine, strong and intense. The nose is powerful, between black fruits with rosemary and thyme. On the palate, black cherries, strawberry jam and a touch of black olive. The finish is long. The tannins will get softer if you are patient enough to age the wine for 5 years, but you can equally serve it young especially with food.
Perfect with a piece of lamb, roast beef or a rabbit chasseur. It can be paired with Italian food as well as Provençal cuisine. It would be a great companion to a large cheese platter.
In the 14th Century, the papacy, which was then in Avignon, chose Châteauneuf-du-Pape as the Pope’s summer residence. Seven successive Popes promoted the production of wine and the development of the vineyards.
The rigour and reliability of the production methods are both a constant element in the history of this vineyard, and helped set the basis for some of the elements required to be awarded AOC status (now AOP, Appellation d'Origine Prôtégée). Châteauneuf-du-Pape was designated as an AOC in 1936.
The blend of grapes in this wine is a classic example of some of the many permitted by the appellation such as Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Syrah as well as lesser known varietals like Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette and Bourboulenc.
