La Reserve de Sociando Mallet Haut-Medoc 2010
Château Sociando-Mallet has always been a wine with great ageing potential. A wine to be enjoyed even after 30 years in great vintages.
Located in the appellation of Haut-Medoc overlooking the Gironde Estuary, Chateau Sociando-Mallet was first owned by an aristocrat, Sieur Sociando. When the property passed to the Mallet family in the 19th century, they added their name. Today, owner Jean Gautreau has passionately worked for 40 years to renew the estate, now covering 85 hectares of beautiful gravel terroir. Planted with 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the vines of Sociando-Mallet have an average age of 30 plus years.
Château Sociando-Mallet produces full-bodied wines with a deep, dark colour. Their complex bouquet is usually dominated by black fruit aromas with a touch of minerality and well-integrated, elegant oak. Often somewhat "virile" when young, the wines gain in balance and complexity with age. They are fresh, straightforward, and have a wonderful length.
On the palate it is direct and precise, intense first impression, which assumes a velvet structure with concentrated but racy tannins. The finish has an excellent length and the interplay is very harmonious. A first class Sociando-Mallet with aging potential.
