La Colombaia Amarone Della Valpolicella 2017
A richly flavoured Amarone with ripe plum and cherry fruit, mocha and spice. Great Value.
Ripe, warm and generous on the nose with abundant plum and cherry aromas, roasted coffee beans and hints of dried fruits. Full bodied and richly flavoured with rich berry and plum fruit, supple tannins and a spicy finish, with the characteristic dry bite of good Amarone. A balanced and very approachable style.
The illustrious Montresor family moved from France to Italy at the start of the 19th Century, and settled in the Veneto region near Lake Garda. In 1892 Cantina Giacomo Montresor was established in Verona, and remains family-owned to this day. Made from a blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes. The grapes are hand harvested at the end of October. The late harvested grapes are dried for four months to enhance sugars and flavours to create the classic rich Amarone stye.
