Ktima Gerovassiliou, Viognier PGI Epanomi 2019
A delicious Greek Viognier well worth trying, previously rated highly by both Decanter World Wine Awards and Sommelier Wine Awards
Benchmark Viognier with expressive aromas of exotic fruits, peach and pear combined with delicate hints of jasmine. Perfumed and elegant with a subtle smoky accent on the finish.
Evangelos Gerovassiliou is often referred to as the 'godfather of modern Greek wine', he has been involved with vineyards and wine since he was a boy, before going on to work with the late great Prof. Emile Peynaud in Bordeaux. He began to revive his family's vineyards from 1981, virtually single-handedly saving the native Malagousia grape from extinction. Today his estate is leading the way in promoting indigenous Greek grape varieties, and is recognised as one of Greece's truly world class producers.
The floral variety of Viognier was initially planted on the estate in 1993, under the supervision of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The vineyard is cultivated in compliance with ecologically sustainable management practices.
