Ktima Gerovassiliou, Viognier PGI Epanomi 2017
A delicious Greek Viognier well worth trying & 90pts - Decanter World Wine Awards
Evangelos Gerovassiliou is often referred to as the 'godfather of modern Greek wine', he has been involved with vineyards and wine since he was a boy, before going on to work with the late great Prof. Emile Peynaud in Bordeaux. He began to revive his family's vineyards from 1981, virtually single-handedly saving the native Malagousia grape from extinction. Today his estate is leading the way in promoting indigenous Greek grape varieties, and is recognised as one of Greece's truly world class producers.
"Lightly oaky nose supported by a palate with a real touch of apricot that typifies the grape followed by a long, lingering finish."
This wonderful Viognier has an aroma filled with tropical fruits with floral notes. The palate has intense stone fruit flavours with silky white peach and notes of white blossom. Lovely refreshing acidity keeps the wine in perfect balance, and the finish is long and lush.
