Kono Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2017

97pts Platinum - Decanter World Wine Awards 2018

Kono wines are created by the Māori-owned New Zealand wine company Kono Beverages, part of the Wakatu Incorporation. True to thier Māori culture, they have a strong spiritual connection to the land and are committed to passing it on to future generations in pristine condition. They are also committed to growing exceptional grapes and creating exceptional wines.

If you are wondering about the name, a kono is a basket woven out of harakeke (New Zealand flax) and was traditionally used by Māori to serve food in. The name reflects Kono's other businesses in New Zealand selling fresh seafood, fruit and even cider, all with a strong focus on sustainability.

"A fresh and nuanced wine with an ethereal texture and lifted pea pod, lemon grass, gooseberry and aromatic capsicum character. The palate offers energetic acidity and a tasty flavour profile with plentiful zesty, saline, tropical, lime and green fruit characters. The finish is not a disappointment, the value phenomenal"

Tasting Notes

A brilliant pale green in the glass, this pure and bright Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has a vibrant fruit driven nose bursting with citrus fruits and passionfruit. On the palate tropical fruits and lifted herbaceous notes are finely balanced with zesty acidity, an underlying minerality, and just a hint of residual sweetness. Juicy, crisp and fresh this wine leads to a long and dry, persistent finish. One to drink young and bright, served well chilled with fresh fish, salads or Thai cusine.
