J. Boutin Les Hauts Granites Crozes Hermitage 2017
Another wonderful wine from expert winemaker Stephane Vedeau. His Northern Rhone wines offer a stunning and elegant expression of the terroir.
Dark intense red colour. A good expression of red fruits on the nose. Exuberant super ripe fruit brings the wine complex aromas and flavours and an almost sweet berry like character. The mouth expresses a good minerality balanced with light notes of oak. The tannins are fine and velvety and the finale is soft and fruity.
Stephane Vedeau is an expert wine maker and we already love the Southern Rhone wines he makes under the Ferme du Mont label. He began making wine in the Languedoc, and then came back to his roots moving to the Rhone in 2000. He owns three different wineries - Ferme du Mont in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Bellane in Valreas, and his Northern Rhone wines are bottled under his mother's name Jeannine Boutin. Stephane is a perfectionist, which for him (in terms of winemaking) means a true expression of the terroir. To accomplish this, work in the vineyards is organic, grapes are hand-harvested, wild yeasts start fermentation, the cellar is gravity fed, aging happens in a mix of stainless steel and larger oak barrels, and wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered.
