Greystone Sauvignon Blanc Barrel Fermented 2018
A delicious oaked organic New Zealand Sauvignon, this is rich, textured and full-flavoured.
Decanter Tasting Score: 91 points
"New to the UK, this is a distinctive and appealing organic Sauvignon that seems more French than Kiwi, with its Loire clones and oak use. Wild yeasts, lees work and malolactic fermentation lend this a rich, creamy nutty profile, given greater complexity and spice tones from barrel fermentation and ageing to join flavours of baked apple, roasted peach and tangy lemon. Drinking Window 2020 - 2022." - Tina Gellie, Decanter.
Greystone Wines began in 2000 when the Thomas Family purchased a farm with exceptional limestone soils in the Omihi hills in Waipara. Viticultural specialist Nick Gill was bought over from Penfolds to plant 13 blocks on this unique terroir and by 2004 work was complete.
Recently described by Decanter magazine as one of the top producers in New Zealand, the vineyard is situated in the Waipara Valley, an hour north of Christchurch. Greystone is 100% certified organic and believes true fine wines are temporal, each vintage a fleeting snapshot of a place in time. They don't seek to manipulate the final product and allow a true interpretation of the soil, vines and season to shine through in their wines.
