Foncalieu has committed to organic agriculture. It is a choice which requires more work and greater investment, to produce lower per-hectare yields. Traditionally, Merlot vines grow in limestone and clay soils, often mixed with scree or a rocky layer over the clay. Merlot needs a lot of water and sunshine to fully ripen and this mix of clay and toprock holds the water well.
Les Roucas Merlot has very generous fruit and a weighty mouthfeel with primary aromas of red fruit in the nose. With the soft tannins, the wine goes great with almost anything from pizza to steak. Drink now.
