Fairhall Downs Single Vineyard Marlborough Pinot Gris 2016
A brilliantly textured and deliciously spiced Marlborough Pinot Gris
In 2014 Brendon and Charlotte Bray along with Charlotte’s parents Colin and Paula Hill purchased Fairhall Downs Estate in Marlborough’s Brancott Valley. Since the original planting in 1982, this stunning 25ha site has a proud record of producing single vineyard wine of exceptional and world renowned quality.
Fairhall Downs is one of just a handful of Marlborough producers making 100% estategrown, single-vineyard wines. Their obsessive vine management and yield limiting practices ensure optimum flavour concentration and the maximum fruit expression possible from their little piece of the world.
“It is instantly appealing on the nose, displaying nectarine, poached pear and apple blossom characters with subtle spicy complexity. The palate is concentrated and impressively weighted, and delivers fabulous silky mouthfeel and texture, brilliantly enhanced by refreshing acidity.'
Intensely floral aromas yield to nashi pear. Nectarine and spice flavours are layered with subtle oak and the extra complexity a partial barrel ferment brings. Picked from mature vines which lend themselves well to a drier wine style. Exacting vineyard monitoring ensures picking at optimum ripeness and expression of lightly spiced pear notes balanced by a crisp finish.
