El Ron Prohibido 12 Year Old Solera Reserva Mexican Rum
A Mexican rum which is aged in a 12-year raisin wine barrel solera system which is rich and sweet
By the year 1700 Spanish ships had arrived in the new continent loaded with products from Spain including barrels containing raisin wine. Not to return empty the barrels to Spain empty they filled them with "Chinguirito" rum sugar cane liquor, a product made in Mexico. On the journey back to Spain the "Chinguirito" began to take on the colour and flavours of the barrels and by the time it arrived into port it had become a delicious rum. So delicious in fact that, feeling more traditional Spanish drinks were under threat, the Spanish king decided to prohibit the production of this drink also known as "Habanero".
The El Ron Prohibido 12 is a Mexican rum which is aged in a 12-year solera system, made of a blend of rums. Matured in barrels which used to hold sweet raisin wine, it's a sweet rum with bitter chocolate notes. Very drinkable.
This solera blended 12 year old mexican rum has aromas of crushed walnuts, brown sugar and waves of vanilla. Following that, you'll start to get plenty of raisin and prune notes. Viscous and mouth-coating on the palate this has flavours of honey, dark chocolate and more raisins. This finishes with notes of black coffee, nutmeg and oak. Enjoy it neat to get the most out of this distinctly rich rum - or why not try it drizzled over vanilla ice cream.
|Serving Suggestion||Perfect neat or drizzled over ice cream|
