El Circo Acróbata Garnacha 2018
This Garnacha has intense aromas of ripe red fruit such as strawberries and cherries followed by a touch of spice. On the palate, it has smooth, firm tannins with a racy acidity and a very fruity finish.
The short bush vines of Garnacha are grown in particularly poor soil coupled with the stress of little water and no irrigation, the grapes ripen slowly, allowing their full potential to come through.
The 2018 vintage was marked by unusually heavy rain during the winter months and was cooler than usual despite a heat wave in the first week of August and a spell of hot weather in September. Ripening occurred more slowly than usual as a result of these generally cooler conditions, producing fruit with good aromatics and fresh acidity.
Fermentation took place in temperature controlled to 12-15º C stainless steel tanks, with regular pump overs. Maceration took place for 10 to 15 days before the wine was filtered and bottled.
The El Circo (“Circus”) range is a collection of varietal wines created to express the magic of the big top marquee, with each wine representing a different circus performer. The wines are made by co-operative Grandes Vinos based in a modern purpose-built facility in the DO Cariñena - the only region in the world to give its name to a grape variety. After having worked both in his native Chile and across Spain, winemaker Marcelo Morales arrived for the 2000 vintage and impressed by both the quality of the fruit and the high standard of the facilities at his disposal, has stayed.
