Domaine Laurent Gauthier Morgon Grand Cras 2019

"Deep garnet red robe. Very complex wine, powerful and fleshy, with kirsh, blond tobacco, blackcurrant and mineral notes. The finish is very velvety."

The grapes for this complex, concentrated Morgon are sourced from a plot close to Morgon's famous Côte du Py. Grand Cras has unique blue granite soils that set it apart from the surrounding terroir. Sustainably farmed and manually harvested, this delicious Cru Beaujolais has been only minimally filtered to keep its' inherent taste and texture intact. The winemaker suggests pairing it with coq au vin, stewed game or similar, but as this wine is suitable for vegetarians and vegans, it would also complement richer, earthier vegetable dishes like a nut roast or mushroom wellington. Drink now or cellar until 2024.

Laurent Gauthier works his vineyards in Morgon and Chiroubles alongside his two sons Jason and Elie. For many years, they have belonged to Terra Vitis, a group of vineyard ownes practising sustainable viticulture.

Terra Vitis apply a set of rules that are specific to vinegrowing, being both sustainable and integrated. The use of eco-friendly techniques to craft the wines, whilst avoiding any negative impact on the environment are the fundamental requirements.

"I do not hesitate to break my back to be closer to my vines, firmly rooted in soil rich in history and tradition. I like to adapt to the geology of my land, a bit like a painter with his palette of colours who projects his individuality through his work!" Laurent Gauthier
