Domaine Jean-Paul Balland Sancerre 2017

An excellent vibrant Sancerre from a small family producer.

Domaine Jean-Paul Balland is an excellent Sancerre producer located in the village of Bué. Today the estate is run by Jean-Paul's daughters Elsie and Isabelle. They own 20 hectares of prime vineyards including plots on Le Grand Chemarin and Le Chêne Marchand. The soils are a mixture of limestone pebbly stones known as “caillottes” and calcareous-clay “Terres Blanches”. Having completley renovated their cellars from the 2015 vintage, the wines have never been better. Wines from around the village of Bué are slightly fuller and richer in style, and this 2017 Sancerre is superb with a real vibrancy.

Tasting Notes

A fresh and vibrant Sancerre, with a brilliant green-yellow colour. This has aromas of citrus, blackcurrant leaf, greengage, herbaceous and mineral notes. The palate is mouthwatering with grapefruit and lime notes, and a rounded mouthfeel with a long and intense finish. Enjoy now and over 1-2 years, and match with fish, salads and seafood.
