Domaine de la Rablais Touraine Sauvignon Blanc 2018
An excellent example of Touraine Sauvignon Blanc from a family owned estate since 1790
Domaine de la Rablais has been in the same family since 1790, just after the French Revolution, before which it belonged to the Seigneury (feudal lord) of Chenonceaux. André Foissier (father of Mrs. Annie Simoneau) took over the running of the 18 hectares vineyard estate at only 14 years old when his father was called to the front at the beginning of the Second World War. Antoine Simoneau, the son-in-law of Mr. Foissier, took over the company in 1977 and they carried on the family tradition of wine and purchased further vineyards around the village of their ancestors. The estate is now driven by Sébastien Paris and Carine Simoneau who cultivate 55ha of vineyards on the hills above the River Cher with the classic grape varieties of Touraine - Sauvignon Blanc, Gamay, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Pinot Noir and Chenin Blanc.
This is an excellent example of Touraine Sauvignon Blanc. An attractive light yellow colour in the glass this has a fresh, grassy nose with citrus fruit and golden apple. On the palate this is clean and lively with a refreshing acidity and zesty citrus fruits flavours along with apple and pear leading to a long, delicate finish. Drink now or over the next couple of years. Perfect with goat's cheese, another of the Loire valley's great exports.
