*Gold, Best Stellenbosch Chardonnay Trophy & Best South African Chardonnay Trophy IWC 2017* *94pts, Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate" The DeMorgenzon vineyard finds itself between mountains in the famous Stellenbosch region of South Africa, and is known for its fairly unconventional cultivation techniques. Aside from growing specially chosen flowers between the vines, they also play Baroque throughout the vineyard 24/7 to 'calm the vines'. Whatever they are doing, they are doing it right as their wines are simply outstanding! DeMorgenzon translates as ‘the morning sun,’ and was named due to it being the first part of the Stellenboschkloof valley to receive the morning sun, this is due to its high altitude and particular aspect.
A wonderful Chardonnay - golden with green hues. Hot toasted brioche with zesty marmalade; a backbone of lime and lemongrass with floral notes of honeysuckle and frangipani on the palate. Warm, rich vanilla and a creamy almond finish. Drink 2017 - 2027. "The 2016 Reserve Chardonnay has an even better nose than the 2015: lemon sherbet, yellow flowers and freshly sliced white peach bursting from the glass, augmented by a hint of tinned apricot. This is irresistible. The palate is well balanced, very expressive with a superb line of acidity. This is an exuberant Chardonnay that barely knows what to do with all that nascent energy. Carl van der Merwe suggested that the 2015 Reserve Chardonnay might have greater longevity. You know, I suspect this might have a longer arc." - 94 Pts Neal Martin, Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
