Chateau Citran Haut-Medoc 2016 150cl Magnum
A superb Bordeaux blend, made in the traditional style from one of the oldest estates in the region
The nose is vibrant, slightly perfumed and filled with a range of black fruits and hints of vanilla. The palate is full and luscious, with plums, blackcurrants and a hint of spice and smokiness from the oak aging. The tannins are well balanced and provide a good structure. The finish is long and velvety. Drinking very well now and will also cellar well.
Chateau Citran is one of the oldest properties in Bordeaux. The Citran family ran the estate from the 13th century until 1832, when the last heir had to sell the estate to a rich, ambitious businessman, Mr Clauzel who defined the property’s boundaries and established Château Citran's prominence among the Medoc estates.
In more recent times the Miailhe family bought the property in 1945 and undertook a renovation programme until 1987. After this a Japanese group acquired the property and made major investments. In 1996, the Merlaut family, a major actor of the Bordeaux wine industry, took over Citran. They have worked hard to develop the quality of growth and prestige. Highly lauded, the Château was designated as an historical monument heritage in 2012.
