Château Cantemerle Grand Cru Classe Haut-Médoc 2014
A refined and elegant Haut-Médoc from a very good vintage
Situated in the Haut-Médoc, the Château de Cantermerle vineyard covers 94 hectares, 91 of which are under production. The soils are silica-gravel soils from the Quaternary era. The gravels, which are a result of a thousand year old erosion of the Pyrenees by the river Garonne, form one of the fundamental elements of a quality vineyard. They form poor soils where the vines "struggle" to give rise to grapes with high concentration. In addition, the small pebbles in the soil provide a filter and contribute to the grape's maturity by reflecting the sun's rays and, during the night, retaining the heat soaked up during the day.
A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot the 2014 Cantemerle displays a deep garnet color, accompanied by a subtle aromatic character. In the mouth there is an immediate sensation of elegant flavours, and supple tannins. The wine continues to develop on the palate, with an immersion of delicate fruit character (raspberries and hazelnuts), and leaves a final impression of great refinement on the finish. This is a very distinguished wine, whose concentration and potential promise a long life.
