Ch La Tour De By Medoc 2011
Ch. La Tour de By 2011 is a delicious traditional Cabernet-dominated Claret.
The stately Château of La Tour de By is situated at the tip of the Médoc, just metres away from the Gironde river. Built on the ruins of a 19th century mill it was bought and renovated in 1965 by Messieurs Pages, Cailloux and Lapalu. Today the estate is run by two of the late Marc Pagès's grandsons, Frédéric Leclerc and Benjamin Richer de Forges. The wines of Tour de By are Cabernet-dominated, packed with lively and spicy blackcurrant fruit and bolstered by a framework of well-integrated toasty oak. The wines are consistently of high quality, and the Château can list Michael Broadbent as one of their many fans, who remarked: "Also a favourite, for some time our everyday claret, is Château La Tour de By". La Tour de By is very much a traditional claret; the wines are fermented in wooden vats and aged for 16 months in new to 3-year-old barriques.
This traditional Cabernet-dominated Claret has ripe black fruits and oak spice on the nose. The palate is quite full with good structure, lots of blackberry and dark plum fruit, backed by real freshness. It finishes long with balanced tannins and complex spice notes. Enjoy now and over the next 2-5 years, and match with cheese, beef or game.
