Boyer-Martenot Les Narvaux Meursault 2016
A fine elegant and opulent Meursault from a small family estate that take great care to make the best wine they possibly can.
A complex nose of citrus with roasted almond hints; the lemon and stone fruits on the palate lead into a lovely creamy weight with a long finish. Ideal accompaniments include fine fish dishes "en papillote" or pan-fried halibut, tender roast chicken or washed-rind cheeses.
For four generations, Domaine Boyer-Martenot has kept alive family traditions and worked with a great respect for the terroir with the aim of producing the best wine possible.
The domaine consists of 10 hectares of vines in the communes of Meursault, Puligny, Auxey-Duresses and Pommard. Between 1997 and 2007 several parcels were acquired in Meursault specifically, including holdings within the 1er Crus of Les Perrières and Les Caillerets. Les Narvaux is produced from the highest vineyard in Meursault bringing richness and finesse.
The Boyer-Martenot philosophy holds that the quality of the wine is achieved first and foremost in the vineyard, so the focus of attention is on producing the best quality grapes. They use traditional methods such as working the soil, controlling yields, green harvesting and using minimal treatments and only when required. Whilst they can't claim to be organic, their approach is very similar.
Whilst their vinification methods remain traditionally-based and everything is harvested by hand, their equipment is of the latest generation affording gentle extraction of the juice from their grapes and careful regulation of the fermentation temperature.
The wine matures for 12 months in oak with regular stirring of the lees to add depth and complexity to the flavours of the finished wine before being bottled on the property.
