Bottega Vinai Teroldego Rotaliano 2014
An excellent wild and spicy red from one of Italy's most interesting native grapes - Teroldego
The Bottega Vinai range encompasses the wide spectrum of grape varieties found in Italy's North East Trentino region, using only grapes specially selected from the most suitable vineyard plots. Bottega Vinai Teroldego Rotiliano is produced exclusively from 100% Teroldego grapes grown on The Rotaliana Plain, situated north of Trento on the gravel embankments of the River Noce. The wine sees a short time in oak barriques and barrels to round out the style, making this a very enjoyable red while young, and a great food wine.
A deep purple in the glass, this has a complex, savoury nose with notes of dark fruits, ripe plums and tobacco from the use of oak. The palate has good structure and weight, given it's relatively light alcohol of 12.5%, and has an intense plum, dark chocolate and sour cherry character, backed up with fresh acidity and ripe easy tannins, making this a very easy drinking style, to enjoy now and over the next 1-2 years.
