Uiterwyk (1682), situated in the cool Stellenbosch Hills, has been a De Waal family concern since 1864. The wines combine elegant Old World finesse and abundant New World fruit. This modest family caused quite a stir in 1998 by winning Wine Magazine's Champion Pinotage award with their single vineyard wine, the Top-of-the-Hill Pinotage, made from more than 50-year-old vines. Chris, Danie and Pieter are the 9th generation of the DeWaal family producing wine in South Africa. Chris is in control of white wines, Danie of the reds, and Pieter is responsible for marketing and sales. The estate is situated 7km to the west of Stellenbosch in the beautiful Stellenboschkloof Valley. This is a refreshing, mouth-watering wine. It has some bright acicdity balancing nice weight in the mid palate. Great Chenin Blanc.
