Craig Hawkins is a winemaker to watch, and anything he produces is a must-try wine in our opinion! Always interesting, always exciting and always individual, his wines continually break barriers and create new styles. Winemaker at Lammershoek, this is Craigs own project, and he likes to experiment! The Cortez is a natural, biodynamic wine with no added sulpher, produced with very minimal intervention.

"Bright golden colour. Aromas of wild honey and freshly baked bread and sage. Dry, tight with shimmering tension. Very racy with tangible sinewy texture. There is plenty of depth and complexity, a core of Asian pear and orange peel, layers of herbs, fennel, nuts. Almost a seaweed saltiness and minerality. Seems to be quite Jura-like. Fascinating, cerebral." 17.5 points Jancis Robinson (2009 vintage)

"Naturally made with no additions (including SO2) or filtration. Complex nose: oxidative, nutty, appley. The palate is complex and lively with amazing acidity and structure, and a mineral, spicy finish. Really complex in the mouth: textural and alive. Notes of pear, apple, spice, herbs. Real precision here: a profound wine." 95 points Jamie Goode (2009 vintage)
